    Opportunity for Students doing summer research at GWU

    Filed under: Uncategorized;

    CyberWatch (CW) and GWU’s Cyber Security Policy & Research Institute (CSPRI) are teaming up to provide opportunities for a number of Community College (CC) students to participate in research efforts at the GWU campus during the summer months of 2010.  There will be a small stipend available for this participation (up to $4,000 per student).

     The competition for participation is on!  Here are the current targets for the work effort:

    1. Conduct background research around the topic “Can cyberspace be secured?” and explore the conduct of an invitation-only event round the topic
    2. Explore distance learning as a technology to promote sharing of course work from GWU and other 4 year institutions to 2 year CCs
    3. Work on the design of a comprehensive and effective linkage between the web site highlighting CSPRI’s research initiatives to CyberWatch’s own web site and users.
    4. Explore the design and maintenance requirements for a cyber security website at 2-year colleges using GWU resources and experience.  The website would promote basic computer security literacy in the general populace, as well as attract students to the field.  Examples of information on the website would be up-to-date guidelines for setting privacy settings for social networking sites, information about flash and browser cookies, and information about various open source software applications.
    5. Work with researchers and professors at GWU to develop modules on secure programming guidelines for C++ or Java to be used in programming classes at 2 year institutions.

     Interested? Please forward a letter of interest from your students to me at toregas1@gwu.edu , to include which of the 5 topics above are of interest, a current resume and availability for a quick interview in the next 2 weeks.  The deadline for applications is May 14, 2010.
